Welcome to the comprehensive analyses of Their Eyes Were Watching God

Introduction

Janie under the significant pear tree.

by Levi Sheppard

Arguably the most important work that came from the Harlem renaissance.
Their Eyes Were Watching God is a stunning piece of literature, written by the brilliant author Zora Neale Hurston. The novel is a unique classic, that instead of using the normal pronunciation of English, Zora alliterates how people in that time period actually spoke. The novel was written in 1937, however the setting is in the 1920's. The novel contains a wide variety of different themes, from romance to tragedy.

Review of the Novel

by Levi Sheppard

"Personally this novel gripped me more than any I have read before. I really am not a huge reader
myself, but this novel was definitely worth it. A few aspects that really bring this novel to life is, like I stated previously, the novel lets you enter the life of Janie, and the other characters by alliterating how they spoke back in those days alliterated. Even know the plot seemed a bit patchy, was countered by the character development. From the begging to the end the theme is clear, the path of self discovery is a lonesome and difficult journey. Regardless of that fact the journey is always worthwhile. I would recommended it to anyone who really appreciates non-conformist literature."
